If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take:
- To get to our New Hope office, take Douglas Dr south out of Crystal, then turn right onto 36th Ave. Right before you get to the Hwy 169 overpass, turn left onto Hillsboro Ave, then right into our parking lot. We’re at 9401 36th Ave N.
- Alternatively, you could take 42nd Ave west, then turn left onto Boone Ave, then right onto 36th Ave and continue the rest of the way the same as in the above directions.
How Much Local History Do You Know?
The history of Crystal, Minnesota, is deeply rooted in the early development of the region, beginning when northeastern Minnesota became part of the United States territory in 1783 following the Revolutionary War, with further expansion through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The establishment of the Territory of Minnesota on March 3, 1849, set the stage for significant settlement and development.
By 1852, Hennepin County was formed, and by 1860, Crystal Lake Township was officially organized, marking the start of a community that would grow and evolve dramatically over the coming years. This area, rich in farmland and later known for its brick manufacturing on the clay beds adjacent to the Mississippi River, began attracting settlers who established the early infrastructure of mills, stores, and residential buildings.
Over the decades, Crystal’s landscape and governance underwent significant changes, particularly as Minneapolis expanded its boundaries, absorbing parts of Crystal Lake Township. By 1887, Crystal Village was incorporated, comprising a mix of residential, industrial, and natural areas, including Crystal Lake and Twin Lakes. Despite challenges such as boundary changes and the impact of the Civil War, the community persevered and continued to develop. It was reorganized several times, with the most notable reorganization in 1911 to prevent annexation by Minneapolis.
Eventually, Crystal was designated a City of the Second Class in 1960, culminating its long history of growth and transformation from a simple township to a vibrant urban community. This rich history is a testament to the resilience and dynamic evolution of Crystal, making it a unique part of the greater Minneapolis area.
